The Youngstown Board of Education has sworn in new board member Carie Watson at the organizational meeting on January 2, 2024. Watson, an educator, earned her BS in Education, an MS in Literacy, and an MS in Education for Leadership from Youngstown State University. Watson is currently employed at Youngstown Community School on the south side of Youngstown, where she teaches Language Arts and Social Studies to fifth-grade students.

“Youngstown is where I learned to live, grow, and care about the world. I am humbled at this opportunity and believe Youngstown will be where other districts turn to for ways to run a public school system,” Watson said. “We have a lot of great things going on in Youngstown, and it is time for the world to know it.”

Youngstown City Schools gives a warm welcome to Carie and looks forward to working with her in support of our district. We also congratulate board members Juanita Walker and Tina Cvetkovich for being appointed board president and vice president, respectively.

As January is Board Appreciation month, we also want to take the time to sincerely thank our board members for continuously advocating and supporting YCSD. Thank you for all that you do.
