Youngstown City School District scheduled a ribbon cutting to celebrate the construction of the new East High School baseball and softball field on Tuesday, March 28, at 4:30 p.m. Immediately after the ribbon cutting is the first baseball game of the season, where East will face off against Chaney High School at 5:00 p.m. East High School alumnus and former MLB player, Kenneth E. Smith, will throw the first pitch.

The field was constructed by The Motz Group of Cincinnati, the same company that installed the new artificial field turf at the historic Rayen Stadium. The baseball and football fields are part of the District’s plans to develop new athletics facilities, including a middle school football field at Martin Luther King jr. Elementary School, and track at Chaney High School.

“The baseball field aligns with Youngstown City School’s efforts in strengthening our overall programs; athletics is one of those components in the process,” said Superintendent Justin M. Jennings. “The Youngstown Board of Education and Youngstown City School District are excited to bring these opportunities to our scholars. This has been a long time coming. We look forward to an incredible future for our players, families, and community.”

East High School is located at 474 Bennington Avenue.
