RECMS right to read week photos

Rayen Early College Middle School celebrated Right to Read Week with literacy-inspired events and surprises along the way. Every day had a different theme, such as dress as celebrity day and dress as your favorite book character day. Not to mention, wear green on St. Patrick's Day and have the chance to pie a teacher.

Some classroom visits include players from the Youngstown Phantoms hockey team who talked about the importance of literacy in the classroom and sports, along with preparing for college and future careers. Two lucky scholars also won tickets to a Phantoms game! Outback Ray stopped by with some reptile friends to get wild about reading and discuss how critical literacy is to his job. One huge surprise scholars were unaware of was a performance by rapper Kap-G. Follow this link to WKBN for their coverage of the surprise with the help of LV8 Studios.

One additional activity that got scholars involved in reading and writing is that they submitted essays about the importance of literacy, and winners joined Gary Rivers every morning the week of March 13 on Mix 98.9. The school also collected over 500 books for Akron Children's Hospital, gifting more children the love of reading.

Literacy is a key to lifelong learning; way to go, Rayen Early College Middle School! If you have a child entering 5-8 grade, registration is now open at RECMS. Visit their website for more information.
