The spirit of innovation and teamwork was on full display as our STEAM Team traveled to New London, Ohio, to compete in the highly anticipated Solar Car Racing Championship! This exciting event brought together schools from across the region to showcase student-built solar cars—small, high-performance vehicles powered entirely by the sun.
Representing Rayen Early College Middle School, Mr. Casey’s group of talented students raced their custom-designed solar car against tough competition. We’re proud to announce that their hard work and engineering skills paid off—they placed in the top 10! This is an outstanding achievement, especially considering the incredible level of competition.
The races were fiercely competitive, with many coming down to a photo finish that required careful review to determine the winner. Every second counted, and our students demonstrated not only technical know-how but also determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.
The Solar Car Racing Championship is a key part of our school’s commitment to STEAM education—Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Through hands-on, project-based learning experiences like this, students gain valuable real-world skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation. Designing and racing solar cars allows students to explore renewable energy, aerodynamics, and mechanical engineering, all while having fun and representing their school with pride.
Congratulations to Mr. Casey and all the members of our STEAM Team for their outstanding performance. We can’t wait to see where their creativity and curiosity will take them next!
