East High will host two special poetry reading events in the school library this May, celebrating the power of words and lived experience. On Thursday, May 8th at 1:30 PM, Youngstown author and musician Susan Wojnar will share selections from her book White Darkness: Poetic Tales of the Schizophrenic Experience, offering insight into mental health through poetry and music. The following week, on Thursday, May 15th at 1:30 PM, award-winning poet Kisha Nicole Foster will visit for a reading and conversation. Foster, a recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize, will share work featured in Black in the Middle: An Anthology of the Black Midwest. These events provide students and staff with an opportunity to engage with local and regional voices and explore the transformative nature of poetry.
