Interview with two men in a radio station

YCSD Artist in Residence, Nova the Rebel (Demetrius Thomas), sat down with Loud 102.3 to talk about all things hip hop and how the district's Artist Development Workshops he's presiding inspire the next generation of rappers and music industry professionals. Scholars dive into the history of hip-hop, musical concepts and production and have the opportunity to create their own lyrics through an in-depth approach examining bar structure, themes, and writing patterns.

Although the music and production program is housed at Choffin Career and Technical Center, elementary and middle school scholars also participate in workshops with Nova.

Nova the Rebel is a member of The Ohio Arts Council and an artist under Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. The district is honored to partner with Nova to bring this new hands-on music education experience to our scholars!

Youngstown City Schools' music programs are under the umbrella of Y-STEAM, which is the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. The initiative is centered on a rigorous curriculum and authentic learning opportunities that inspire innovation, inquiry, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
