On Friday, September 23, the Kiwanis Club of Boardman-Youngstown generously donated books to scholars at Harding Elementary in grades 1-5. This effort was due to a $5,000 grant they awarded, which has grown to $10,000 with additional support from the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. Kiwanis members stopped by second-grade teacher Shannon Sefcik's (who applied for the grant) classroom, brought pizza, and read Lebron James' book I Promise. This program is the second year the Kiwanis Club has donated books to Harding. It is expanding its book program into Volney Elementary and would like to implement the program in another YCSD school. We cannot thank the Kiwanis Club Boardman-Youngstown enough for supporting our scholars' literacy!
