Dear Youngstown City School District Families,
This morning, three separate non-credible threats were made by phone call at several schools across the district.
We want to begin, most importantly, by ensuring that all scholars and staff are safe. Our established safety protocols were implemented immediately, and at no point was there danger to our school communities. Classes are in session and the school day is resuming as regularly scheduled.
While these situations can be unsettling, we want to reassure you that they were handled quickly, and in partnership with the Youngstown Police Department. We are grateful for their thorough investigation and support.
The district takes every report seriously, regardless of its perceived credibility. We are incredibly proud of our scholars, teachers, and staff for their calm and professional response during today's procedures.
As a reminder, it is always the right time to speak with your child about safety, and if they hear something, then to say something. In addition to our staff, another way to communicate incidents of threats, bullying, or suspicious behavior is through the Safer Ohio School Tip Line. More information is available here: https://ohioschoolsafetycenter.ohio.gov/pre-k-12-schools/safer-ohio-school-tip-line.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to keep our school communities a safe space of learning.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Batchelor.
Superintendent
