Chaney High School scholars are engaging in the fundamental right of democracy by learning about voting and voting rights in the United States.

Scholars participated in the two-part Voting is a Linchpin to Equity seminar, where Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown and Youngstown Board of Education members spoke with scholars about the importance of Voting and having their voices heard. Chaney High School teacher Robert Wiery provided non-partisan information about the issues on the November 7 ballot so scholars can make an informed decision when they cast their “vote” at the second session of the seminar.

Poll workers were on hand for part two of Voting is a Linchpin to Equity to sign scholars in and direct them to voting stations to cast their votes. Scholars also voted for class officers such as vice president and president.

Thank you to Mayor Brown, the board of education, the Chaney administration, and teachers for advocating for our scholars to be involved in Voting and thinking about their futures as elected officials.
