The English Learners (EL) Program at Youngstown City Schools has seen record-breaking growth, with scholars surpassing the yearly goal of 46.6% and a growth rate of 51.3%, the highest percentage YCSD has seen in the program.
Approximately 450 scholars are identified as English Learners, roughly 10 percent of all scholars. Spanish speakers make up 98%, however, other represented languages include Arabic, Turkish, Tagalog, and Urdu.
As part of the program’s expansion and outreach efforts, EL has partnered with OCCHA to host family nights that celebrate the rich culture of diversity our families and community.
