The Youngstown Board of Education appointed Jeremy Batchelor as the superintendent of Youngstown City School District (YCSD) at the July 3, 2023, Special Board of Education meeting. Batchelor was previously elevated as the interim superintendent and, prior to that, was the deputy superintendent at YCSD.

He will begin his role on August 1, 2023, assuming the position of former Superintendent Justin Jennings, who resigned in June 2023.

“The Youngstown Board of Education is excited to announce the hiring of Jeremy Batchelor as the next superintendent of Youngstown City Schools,” said Youngstown Board of Education President Tiffany Patterson. “With his profound experience in education we are thrilled for him to continue at YCSD and work alongside our educators. The success of the academic improvement plan, and the many benchmarks being met will be strengthened by Mr. Batchelor’s leadership.”

A native of Youngstown, Batchelor has over 26 years in education, and has served in various roles at YCSD for the past six years including principal of East High School, and as chief of staff. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from John Carroll University and earning a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Youngstown State University.

Before his time at YCSD, Batchelor was the assistant superintendent of Austintown Local Schools from 2014-2018. He also served in administrator roles for school districts, including as principal for the James Martin Middle School in Charlotte, NC, as well as an area administrator for student services in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

“I am truly humbled and honored to be appointed as the superintendent of Youngstown City Schools” Batchelor said. “I look forward to the opportunity to keep working closely with the board of education, teachers, staff, and our families and scholars. My promise is that YCSD will continue providing an environment of educational excellence for our scholars of today and tomorrow.”
