Youngstown City School District’s East High School Principal, Debra Campbell, has been named a recipient of the Ohio Association of Black School Educators (OABSE) Outstanding Principal and Administrator.

The awards recognize exemplary school principals and administrators who showcase excellence in leadership. Campbell was nominated because of the shared leadership she vigorously and transparently displays with her administrative team. The growth at East has substantially shifted over the years due to Campbell watering the seeds planted by the previous administration to advance East High School as a school of destination.

In Campbell’s tenure, the atmosphere at East has been influenced, and the culture and dynamics of what Golden Bears pride is: supporting a well-rounded academic environment for scholars and empowering the leaders of tomorrow.

“I am humbled and truly honored to be recognized as an OABSE Outstanding Principal,” Campbell said. Our scholars and team at East motivate me to continue our work, which is a commitment to education. I look forward to continuing serving at East High School and collaborating with our staff, families, and community to foster an environment of excellence.”

In addition to Campbell, a scholar of her choice will also be honored for their commitment to their community.

Youngstown City School District Superintendent Justin M. Jennings said, "Ms. Cambell's leadership is a testament to the academic development and attendance increases at East High School. The Youngstown Board of Education, Youngstown City Schools, and our scholars are beyond fortunate to have Ms. Campbell as part of our leadership team."

The OABSE Regional Conference will be held from April 20-22. The award recognition banquet will be on the evening of April 22, with Youngstown City School District Superintendent Jennings as the keynote speaker.
