Collage of Read Across America volunteers and children at harding elementary

Notable community professionals visited classrooms at Harding Elementary on March 3 for Read Across America Day. Established in 1998 by the National Education Association, Read Across America is the nation's largest celebration of reading. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.

Judge Carla Baldwin, Judge Renee DiSalvo, Judge Teresa Dellick, Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past Director Penny Wells, and Chris Gunter, sideline reporter for the Cleveland Charge, are some volunteers who generously gave their time to read to scholars. The theme for the day was "The Places You'll Go!" and volunteers discussed their professional careers and how literacy is essential to their job. Alongside our readers were 5th graders from Harding who read and spent time with younger grades.

Thank you to all of our guests for supporting YCSD!
