Superintendent Justin Jennings

WFMJ recently sat down with Superintendent Justin Jennings, and Youngstown City Schools administrators, Dr. Martin Freeman and Garrick Matlock to discuss the impact of Black men in education. Black teachers are an underrepresented group, making up only 1.3% of all teachers in K-12. Despite these staggering numbers, YCSD is among the leading employers of teachers and administrators of color in the Youngstown area.

Regardless of this feat, it’s essential to continue recruiting and retaining diverse talent, especially encouraging careers in education. Representation matters, and it is critical for our youth to see someone like themselves. Check out the full interview, and learn more about impactful career opportunities at YCSD.
